I have more than a decade of experience as an instructional designer, project manager, and writer for organizations committed to community impact.
Design & Facilitation
I love helping people connect and solve problems together. I'm a skilled human-centered design practitioner deeply informed by my experiences as a classroom teacher and my training in universal design for learning. I believe in enabling community members to find new ways to leverage their expertise, whether I'm working with high school students, veteran teachers, or community organizers. I work to foster collaboration and partnerships, facilitate online and in-person community dialogue, and design and host activities that build robust communities of practice.
Since 2007, I've designed programs and led events on subjects from education to civic engagement to public art. Get in touch and let's talk about how we might work together.
research & Writing
My graduate research focused on my two great passions: creativity and digital media. Since then, I've brought those areas of expertise to bear in grant applications, television scripts, tech product reviews, and more. Most recently, I've developed a field guide for community building change agents, interdisciplinary lesson plans for teachers, and resource guides for parents and caregivers. Here are a few highlights of my past work.
connected learning lesson plans
This collection of resources was designed to share, remix, and reuse, and it exemplifies some of the best connected learning practices that have developed in Pittsburgh's Remake Learning Network. I curated and edited the lesson plans, and I developed blog posts and hosted a webinar for the National Writing Project promoting their release.
BAISLD RESOURCE GUIDE
In 2013, I led a regional effort to develop and publish a resource guide for parents and educators to help 'neuro-diverse' middle school students transition to high school. Now in its second edition, this guide represents a one-of-a-kind collaboration among nearly two dozen independent schools in the San Francisco Bay Area.
EDTECH RATINGS & REVIEWS
I'm a member of the founding writing team for Common Sense Education, formerly called Graphite. Since 2013, I've written and edited editorial content and critical reviews for Common Sense Media's educator and consumer channels. Notably, I also hosted an "Appy Hour" webinar to go in-depth on one of my favorite (sadly now defunct) tools, Subtext.
